For a few years I visit the segelflug.de site where a lot of planes are looking for a new home.
I really wanted to find a nice libelle since it’s quite an old model and maintenance cost can be quite high
it was important that the plane was in flying condition.
On a certain day in june i was looking and I saw her with nice pictures.
The only thing was she lived 1000km away in Austria. Not only the distance was a challenge because a quick inspection was not possible.
But also the registration was not dutch. To make sure it was not a total gamble before I went on a trip to Austria
I asked the owner to send me as much information as he had. The idea was to present the documentation to the dutch authorities in advance so I would
not run in to problems later if I decided to buy the plane. I must compliment ILT (dutch authority) for the help in the whole process they really helped me out to get
the information I needed.
At the point I started the whole buying process I had only a basic Idea but in the end I needed an excel checklist to not forget anything.
Since the plane was registered in Germany I also contacted LBA (germand authority) in advanced. They also helped me quick and good.
So finally I could plan, and went on a trip. My wife joined me on this trip what certainly makes a difference when you travel 2000km in a weekend by car. And a big trailer.
Luckily everything was ok, so I decided to plan a trip to meet the plane and if everything looked ok, to bring the plane home.
and the poor plane out in the rain
